Tasting Note
Deep ruby with purple reflections, opening with blackcurrant, black cherry and redcurrant alongside violet, cedar and a subtle touch of mint. The palate is generous but finely controlled, with ripe dark fruit wrapped around firm, polished tannins and a lively freshness that keeps the wine elegant rather than heavy. Gentle notes of tobacco, graphite and integrated oak add complexity, leading into a long, savoury finish of cassis, dark cherry and spice.

The Story
Château La Gurgue sits in the heart of Margaux, with ten hectares of vines rooted in deep gravel and coarse sand over limestone, including parcels surrounded by some of the appellation’s most celebrated vineyards. The estate is owned by Claire Villars-Lurton and shares the expertise and facilities of neighbouring Château Ferrière, with both properties embracing organic and biodynamic viticulture. The 2019 was vinified parcel by parcel using natural yeasts and gentle extraction before spending 12 months divided between French oak barrels and ovoid concrete vats. It is an approach designed to preserve Margaux’s perfume and finesse while allowing Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure and dark-fruited character to shine through.
