Tasting Note
Bright pale yellow in the glass, with fresh aromas of pear, white peach and citrus joined by delicate white flowers. The palate is beautifully poised, combining juicy yellow fruit with lemon freshness and a fine, almost saline mineral edge. There is a subtle herbal note through the middle, while the clean stainless-steel élevage keeps the fruit wonderfully precise and uncluttered. Fine acidity brings energy without making the wine feel sharp, and there is just enough weight to give it substance at the table. Dry, pure and refreshing on the finish, with lemon, pear and garden herbs lingering behind.

The Story
Dr. Wehrheim is a fourth-generation family estate in Birkweiler in the southern Pfalz, an area remarkable for the variety of soils packed into a relatively small landscape. The family has farmed biodynamically since 2006, with the first respekt-BIODYN-certified vintage released in 2017, and the estate is also EU Organic and Fair Choice certified. 'Buntstück' is their introductory Weissburgunder, grown principally on weathered Buntsandstein, the colourful Triassic sandstone that gives the wine its name and its characteristic freshness and mineral shape. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand, destemmed and given a period of skin contact before gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation and ageing in stainless steel until bottling. It is deliberately uncomplicated cellar work, allowing Pinot Blanc’s pear, citrus and floral character to come through with impressive clarity.
