Lusciously sweet South African Muscadel – perfumed, grapey and silky with a lovely raisined richness.

Brilliant light red in the glass, showing youthful freshness. The nose is muscaty and perfumed, with lifted grape and floral notes. On the palate it is sweet, silky and generous, with ripe muscat character and a pleasant, lingering aftertaste. Best served slightly chilled.

The Story
McGregor Winery is rooted in the small village of McGregor, at the foot of the Riviersonderend mountains in the southern part of the Robertson area. The cellar traces its local story back decades and today serves as the winery showcase for wines produced in and around McGregor, with Roodezandt helping underpin the broader operation. Their Red Muscadel is very much in the classic South African sweet-wine mould – rich, perfumed and made to deliver plenty of flavour and generosity in the glass.

Perfect With... (click me for the recipe)
- Meat/fish: Chicken liver parfait with red onion chutney and toast – the wine’s sweetness and perfume work beautifully with rich pâté and sweet-savoury garnish.
- Vegetarian: Apricot and almond tart with crème fraîche – a soft, fruit-led dessert that echoes the wine’s grapey sweetness and silky texture.
- Vegan: Orange and almond cake with a little candied citrus – bright citrus and gentle nuttiness sit neatly alongside the muscat perfume and sweet finish.
